From the very beginning, I knew what I was getting into. One Punch Man stars Saitama who defeats his opponents with one punch. As the episodes seem to fly by, I found myself enjoying the series for entirely different reasons than what caused me to watch in the first place. I wanted some great action scenes and I got plenty of that but I often got more of a laugh from Saitama and the frustrations he endures as he begins to refine his craft as a message to those who excel at something but still find success limited to the thoughts of their peers. The expressions and reasons behind why Saitama becomes One Punch Man are truly refreshing as everything is laid out in front of you and every time you believe that there’s a twist, the truth is exactly what was presented. You also get to enjoy the relationship between him and Genos, a cyborg hero who become’s Saitama’s protégé within the series. The animation, produced by Mad House continues to prove what a strong studio they are as the fight scenes bring back classic grit style animation during intense scenes and the effects always felt over the top which I was thankful to see. But that’s where I found myself looking for the point. I found myself wondering more about the plot as well as the other hero’s stories but it just never happened. During the second half of the series there seems to be a highlight towards Mumen Rider, but all of the back stories for those characters were left dangling in the wind. As I watched the ending of the season, I sat confused wondering if there was anymore. Should I have really asked for more? I knew what I was getting into, but should there have been more?
I don’t know if there will be or should be, but I was happy to have watched it and I know you will too. You’re in luck as well since Toonami debuts the first episode on July 16th. If you’re looking for the stream, you’ll find it at Daisuki and Hulu under premium subscriptions respectively. What did you think about it? Are you excited to see the dub on Toonami? nice article
just read it…
i personally dont like dubbed japanese movies.. i would rather read subtitles and have the emotional intensity the original characters expose..
….and the background tissues on OPM is the fact that there are true heroes in todays life that dont get recognized.. its all about ranking, fame and power but the true people that are making things happen are honest, trustworthy and humble.. just like the PARASYTE THE MAXIM SERIES, they are trying to send a message.. to which i honestly have a theory that its probably the same art studio knocking these amazing series out..
Even I felt what saitama felt when I was at Megacon… The Marvel DC Photoshoot started and I tried to be a part of it.. and they kicked me out and they said i couldnt be in the photoshoot because “I wasnt a hero!!!!” WOWWW AMAZING.. I WAS IN SHOCK! I sided with saitama at that moment more than EVER.. #saitamascream #sdcc
Yea just seeing Mumen Rider riding in the rain to all parts of the city on a bicycle and even carrying the hero himself was just a great example that one has love for their country and is willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish set goals. And take it from me, I ride a motorcycle and riding in the rain soaken wet is very uncomfortable and bothersome. you really have to love it. Some Reality Shock for you..
