Pokemon Switch (version 8) will go into a radical new redesign from the ground up. From the few tibits of information we have received from Nintendo and the Pokemon Company, we can assume the next few points about what we might expect of the new Pokemon Switch game:
The game will be in a open world (ala BOTW) and Pokemon’s will be roaming freely changing the 30 year old mechanics for the first time ever. I don’t see why Nintendo wouldn’t share Zelda’s world with Pokemon since they own almost half of the company and can help get Pokemon development much sooner by including all the world rules, assets, physics, development experience to help support Pokemon Switch. Normally a startup Development workflow could take easily 3+ years to set all of this up, so don’t see why not help each other. This is Pokemon we’re talking about!
Brand new dynamics such as having to sneak up on certain Pokemon without being heard, seen to enter battle and chance to catch em. Some will require new challenges to reach, obstacles to trap. Imagine a bit of Pokemon Go + Pokemon Snap, since the switch is a portable console Nintendo could implement location based Pokemon gathering and have players meet up at certain locations to catch certain pokemons. Similar abilities we have seen in the past such as flying, going underwater, can be redone in a new Zelda-like world experience.
Legendary pokemons will exist in hidden parts of the world where it will be a challenge to reach. Mew, Mewtwo, Arceus, Ho-Oh, Lugia, Rayquaza, Entei, Palkia, Heatran, Dialga, Groudon, Kyogre and more could be captured. They could be locked until either special events allowing specific pokemons are active.
Brand new Amiibo’s will allow for exclusive special shiny pokemon. This will greatly help boost Amiibo sales once again. So expect Nintendo to release whole new sets of Amiibo’s and also ingame exclusives from older Amiibos. Nintendo is sitting on a goldmine in here.
There will be a Tournament Arena lobby in the world where players can come here to connect online, trade, battle, make friends. Pokemon could learn a bit from DragonBall Z Fighters lobby, where they allow players to interact with one another but have to be in the right location in the lobby to battle, trade, ect.
Now as all of this sits as speculation by us here in CosGamer, it wouldn’t sound so far-fetched since this is the first time in Pokemon history that it brings the legacy Pokemon into a new Generation of gaming. What do you think of the mentioned points?
Would you be excited to “Gotta Catch em all” all over again in this new world?
